Yep – harderfaster were there! Confronted by the choice of another charging night at the Rhythm Factory with the WYD? crew and the launch party of Tasty at Crash – there was only one choice… go to both! And what a mad night it was…
Friday night – Phase 1: Who’s Your Daddy ?
Every time we’ve headed down to the monthly Friday night Who’s Your Daddy? party we’ve had a stormer. If you’ve never been down – our advice is get yourself down there for their Christmas party on December 7th – we guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.
The Rhythm Factory is a true underground venue – a relaxed bar with funky music at the front and out the back two concrete floored rooms full of crazy, charging clubbers. The venue is big enough to hold a great party but small enough to remain intimate. The first time I partied at WYD? I really wondered if I’d come to the right venue – the music in the front bar was slow and funky and there were people sitting all about relaxing with beers and chatting – not the typical scene upon entering your average underground hard dance party. Upon making my way out through the back of the bar, however, I got a big grin on my face as I opened the door into the main room and my ears were assaulted by hard, fast trance and house beats and a truly-up-for-it crowd.
Last night, due to prior engagements, the harderfaster team arrived after midnight and the party was in full swing. Matt Clarke was behind the decks in the main room and the scene that greeted us was one of smoky, sweaty pandemonium. The crowd at WYD? really does help make the night – always friendly and bouncy and due to the size of the venue, the whole room always gets fired up whenever a big anthem gets laid on.
During Ed Real’s set, we spotted a playlist and saw that Tara Reynolds was on in Room Two (holds about 60 people) and we decided to duck in and see what was going on… The room was jumping! Tara was grooving away behind the decks and if how she acts is anything to go by, then this girl loves her job!
It was a bit of a celebrity crowd – with a number or off-duty DJs dancing away in the crowd, including hubby Phil, Ian Mac and Nick Sentience (though we were sure he was playing at Tasty earlier?!?). Toward the end of Tara’s set we plunged back across to the main room to catch the end of Ed Real’s set.
The party was in safe hands with Ed, and the crowd were charging. We got ourselves fully warmed up in preparation for Phil Reynold’s closing set. This bloke knows how to play the closing set at a party (see James Lawson Interview for more comments on this) and last night was no exception. As per other WYD? parties, his set included all the crowd-pleasing hard house / hard trance anthems as well as more of the big trancey numbers than he regularly plays elsewhere.
There’s not a lot else to say about the rest of the night, other than that place was rocking. We danced ourselves into the floor – whooped – jumped about like psychos –and generally had an awesome time. Well done once again to Bill and the rest of the WYD? crew!
Once the traditional encore tune had wound down, we piled straight out of the Rhythm Factory and into the harderfastermobile to scream across town to Crash in Vauxhall to catch the closing phases of Tasty…
Friday night – Phase 2: Tasty
We arrived at Crash pumped up, ready to party and looking forward to finishing off the night (morning?) in style. We had one slight problem… whilst our intentions were excellent, we hadn’t quite got around to formally arranging to get ourselves on the Tasty guestlist… Billy “Daniel” Bunter (the promoter) popped down to see us. Though his response to the question “we’re from harderfaster.net, have you heard of us?” was “Ermm… no.”, fortunately he decided that letting us loose on the club with our digital camera and bad attitudes wasn’t a bad idea. Noice one!
The main room was nicely packed – full, but just possible to squeeze onto the dance floor. The pace of the music upon arrival was more hardersteadier than harderfaster and chatting to people we met, there were mixed reviews as to how the music had been. Nearly everyone we met seemed to have had a good night though, and having dashed across London, nothing was going to stop us going ballistic at the merest hint of a thrashing tune. I think it was Ian M behind the decks when we arrived – and as I mentioned, it wasn’t the most charging of sets but seemed to be gathering momentum.
At around about 6am, Mr Reynolds stepped up to the wheels of steel to give us another dose of his medicine. The set he turned out was quite different to the WYD? effort – definitely more continually driving and quite a different track selection. A couple of key tunes were detected again. Khemikal Imbalance had it’s mandatory airing – it really is the track of the moment and getting a caning on the dance floor pretty much everywhere recently. Look out for the Khemikal Imbalance launch party at Endorphin at Mass next weekend…
Billy Daniel Bunter was winding up the crowd MC style over the PA, introducing the DJs and checking if everyone was having a good time – the response was generally quite favourable judging by the number of hands in the air and yelling and whistling going on At one point Phil Reynolds put on Back 2 Front (Nick Sentience & Phil Reynolds) and at the same time Nick himself (just back from WYD?) was dancing away down in the crowd – cool!
A nice touch on the night was the free goodies. Icy poles and fruit were being handed out gratis and upon leaving, there was a free record for every clubber – a generous way to generate goodwill at the launch of a new dance party.
So, altogether a top, top night. If you were there, it was great partying with you, if not, we’ll see you at Endorphin next weekend. Billy Boy
