Witches, Elvis, horns - Must be the 'Spiritualised' Halloween Ball - 30 Oct

Reported by clubchick / Submitted 11-11-04 15:20

Ok. So the weekend ahead looked bad for me. Firstly, my fiancé went to South Africa without me (ok I couldn't go but that's not the point), he was off sunning himself in the wonderful sunshine, while I had planned nothing more than a weekend in with my weird and unsociable flatmates. It's been so long since I went out on my own that I didn't even think to go out. It all started with a call from my friend Clodagh, rescuing me from a house warming party in Essex (about 30 screaming kids). She said 'get your ass to Spiritualised' but my reply 'I don't know anyone' I didn't get to finish because the next thing I know I'm on a train to London and writing down directions. The Rhytmn Factory. Interesting name. It was my first night out clubbing in ages, so I felt a little bit excited. I got there dressed as appropriately as I could, a 'funky' witch. I got a call from my other Irish friend Annmarie and she was also coming with her sister. Okay... I thought I'd only stay til 12 or so, but I now knew I was in for a long night and a good party. Wink

What am I rambling on about? SPIRITUALISED of course. There was a double whammy celebration at this Saturday night party, it was HALLOWEEN but also there were two birthday celebrations. Clodagh (a resident DJ from Spiritualised) and her lovely friend, Terry (an organiser from Spiritualised). Friendly faces met me when I arrived (ok I didn't recognise anyone in their Halloween costumes but who cares!). The first thing I noticed was I forgot how nervous I was out on my own and really felt the energy hit me like blast of heat. It was great. Bouncing bodies everywhere and it was only 11pm. The costumes were awesome, everyone really went to town and were quite scary. Eek! Pretty much early on, someone took off my witches hat and hair and i never saw it again!!!Confused The two rooms really impressed me, nothing fancy, but very cosy with great decorations. Nice but efficient security. It was fun as I normally have my 6ft 4 fiance beside me and guys are often afraid to say hi. But I forgot how many people I know from Spiritualised over the years. It's a good way to keep in touch with everyone.

So what was the line up? The line up was amazing. The funky room really grabbed me as there was amazing latin beats with rock, breakbeats, electro thrown in. Everyone had their own amazing style. The room was buzzing. It was seriously on fire. Even the lighting in there was funky. Soft yellows and reds and was comfy. I distinctly remember one girl play the most exciting set I've heard in a long while. She put everyone in a great mood, she was cheeky with her mixing but had some strange rock beats in there, which was so much fun. Anya is her name. Cool name. I remember the last set of the night in the funky room - Brent Clark. I saw this guy play about a year ago at Spiritualised and I just loved his style. He's a friendly Capetonian and loves what he does. I'm going to stalk him until he lets me in on his secret of where he buys his vinyls. Brilliant set but sorry was too tired to dance.Razz

Raul from Spain played a funky set. I just remember him running after me all night as he didn't want me to sit down, he doesn't believe in sitting down at a party. Good theory.Spin Plus he gave me about 5 pairs of red horns that I lost. I won't be able to remember everyone's set as most of my night was in the funky room. I have to say one thing for this venue, well done on having enough toilets. There wasn't the usual queue and plenty of loo roll. Well done on that! Normally I meet girls chatting in the toilets, but the music was just too good to not be on the dancefloor.

In the main room Clodagh & Nacho's set grabbed me. Nacho was on first and as usual he has this high energy set that makes you dance your socks off. Clodagh & Nacho strutted their stuff also in the funky room.

I love the crowd that comes to Spiritualised. Its just like a big group of friends meeting up at someone's house. It's a lively and happy atmosphere. I met so many cool people and heard wicked tunes. My fave tune from the hardhouse room has to be 'smack my bitch up' which I believe was the very last tune of the evening played, even if the security rudely turned it off.

Clodagh was like a bouncing bunny on stage, happy as always, getting everyone bouncing and jumping. I don't know how she has so much energy. Franky, is a very interesting DJ. I really have a lot of respect for him. He's a smooth operator on stage. Doesn't need a huge stage performance, as I've said before, his music alone shows how great he is. I think he was dressed up as Elvis? Or maybe that was just me seeing things!!

So many great tunes (sorry I can't remember), but that's the main reason I go out now, is for the music. Sorry if I forgot any other dj's as I know you were all fantastic!!

It's Sunday night almost midnight now and I'm smiling back as I remember the great night I had. For a girl who thought her weekend was doomed, I think I did pretty well. Big up to the Spiritualised crew for the great music, fun, and friendships. Waves

Ok, so when's the next one? Put me down, I'm there!

Big up to Luke Smith and Ben Randall for the pics! thanks guys!Thumbs up
