Tamir Ozana first came to worldwide attention with a track written alongside scene legend in the making Astrix, Valirus, back in 2001. Since then he has continued to drop scene stealing tracks and play to packed out crowds. Joining Yair Baron to create Atomic Pulse, their sound has rocked dance floors from Argentina to Ukraine. With the release of their newest album – Multiverse – BNE records agreed to let HF’s newest reporter, Alica Lix talk to Tamir and get her finger on the Atomic Pulse.
How did you create your name?
The name came out from our intention to make an atomic music but with a dance pulse. Atomic Pulse was the perfect name for us.
So you have been working together since 2000- 2001, which one of you is the best at music production?
Well that’s a hard one! We both worked the same in the beginning, but as time passed different directions were created and today I’m the one that is responsible for the production, style, and direction of Atomic Pulse.
Through your three albums we can notably see a growing sound, from underground psychedelic to signs of mainstream trance, specially on the last album. What has been the response from your fans?
The response is just perfect. Yes we have moved more into the main stream of trance, but still in the same breath, we kept the magic and sound of Atomic Pulse. From album to album it just became better but with the same taste, we think. That’s one of the most important things I think, not to let down our fans that loved our sound from the 1st album.
How do you see the psychedelic trance evolution in Israel?
To be honest, we don’t play in Israel too much, maybe 3-4 gigs in a year in our country, since first we work abroad a lot and second the scene in Israel went really underground, finally the fees here are not that attractive for us.
You have worked with great international names in different genres of music like Brazilian reggae band Cidade Negra. Who would like to work but haven't had a chance yet?
There’s so many! By far the most is BT (Brian Wayne Transeau) from the USA we are big fans of him and if we will have the chance we will do it for sure.
Talking about fans, you play around the globe with certain regular stops, like in my country Brazil. What places do you most enjoy playing at and why?
There’s so many places, I love it all! Highlights however are Japan, South Africa, and Brazil because people in these countries love any kind of music and the vibe and magic there is felt in the air. Also these places have very busy trance scenes.
Tell us, have you ever had trouble with groupies? And if so what happened?
Actually no. I had a girlfriend for 5 years, but we just broke last year so I haven’t really had the chance to get into any problems. Yair has a girl friend for 6 years and they are getting married next year. We can say that we have been trying to avoid any kind of these things!
From all the festivals you’ve appeared at, which ones you wouldn't play again? And which ones have been your favourite?
Well let’s start with the good one! My first preference is S.O.S festival in Japan which we’ve played at every year for the last 6 years. The bad one for us (just the one) was Butterfly festival in Greece. We didn’t have a good time there and we promised ourselves that we will not play there again.
What’s been your favourite track?
If you mean Atomic Pulse tracks, well there’s so many because we love them all. But the two tracks we really love are Atomic Pulse – Direct Source and Atomic Pulse – New World Order.
When do you find is the best time is to compose?
Any moment for us. Up to today we have produced almost 200 tracks and 4 albums so that says that we always have good time to compose.
How do you think your masters studies in sound helped in your career?
For sure, it helped a lot. Our sound is based on that, and I think that we have some of the some of the best production standards in the trance scene, if not in all music genres.
Do you have any solo projects coming up?
The next projects I’m planning for 2008-2009 are: AtomiCulture with Nate Protoculture and Strike Twice which is with Micha from Echotek.
I saw the launch of your Direct Source album in Soulclipse Turkey 2006, are you launching a new album in Soulclipse again, or maybe next year in Japan?
I’m surprised that you are so well informed about Atomic Pulse, well done. Actually we are! The 5th album of Atomic Pulse which doesn’t have a name yet will be launched in that event in September 2009.
What do you think is going to be the best thing for you this summer?
S.O.S festival, August in Japan and Kaballha 5 years in Brazil in September, the high light of the year I think.
You started in rock music before psy. There seems to be a lot of crossover between the music, why do you think that is?
I can’t really say why it’s like that, but its well known that the music we make attracts more people that don’t really like music with words, more underground, more united, without any differences between colours or language or shapes.
Thank you, or Obrigada!
We might see you on the dancefloor.
