You can always tell the summer season is approaching when labels start releasing a glut of “Now That’s What I Call The Clubbers Guide To Ibiza Anthems” type compilations So hats off to Warners who have bravely (and some may say foolishly) attempted to condense the entire history of Ibiza into a 3 CD set - and dare I say it, they’ve done a pretty good job
No one can argue with the worthiness of all the tunes included, and they’ve done a great job of featuring tracks from across the years rather than focussing on the more modern anthems. As such we get 50 tracks (talk about getting your monies worth!) from 15 years of white isle hedonism with Jaydee’s “Plastic Dreams”, Last Rhythm’s “Last Rhythm” and “Break For Love” by Raze rubbing shoulders with Modjo’s “Lady”, Bob Marley’s “Sun Is Shining” and X-Press 2’s “Lazy” (who else thinks this rips off Alison Limerick’s “Where Love Lives”, itself the one notable omission from this CD?).
If you were in Ibiza with Oakey, Tong, Rampling and Holloway in ‘89 or if the thought of setting foot on the white isle fills you with fear and dread, the fact is this remains a fantastic retrospective of all-time classic house music that is guaranteed to kick any house party off in fine style, be it at a summer beach in the Mediterranean or at a basement flat in deepest darkest South London in the throws of Winter!
