Eat Static

» Science Of The Gods Expanded: 1997-98

Label: Cherry Red Records
Format: CD
Genre: Trance / Drum & Bass

Planet Dog luminaries Eat Static completed the trilogy on Cherry Red in 2023 with Science Of The Gods. Originally released in 1997, Science returned with in an expanded form; echoing Cherry Red's previous Eat Static sets in the form of Abduction and Implant. Where the other albums got three-disc editions, Science Of The Gods received a quadruple set of delights including, for the first time, the B-World live album and the Hybrid, Intruder and Contact EPs. All on their own discs.

Science Of The Gods was Eat Static's final album on Planet Dog but left behind a legacy that cannot be easily ignored or forgotten. Comprising and combining Static's love of drum & bass with heavy doses of trance, the album forged a musical blueprint. The album has been lovingly remastered to give it a sonic sheen that sounds beefy on a good system. You can get every nuance of sound which you couldn't in 1997.

The real gems of the set though are the EPs and the live album. All released mixes and remixes of the EPs are here; including Eat Static's own renditions of Hybrid, Interceptor and Contact. Curiously, the original of Contact is only present on the album. Mind you, what we do have are sonic treasures. Its the De Niro mix of Contact that gets me moving, along with PFM's seminal mix of Hybrid.

The live album contains tracks recorded in various venues. It is no less euphoric and ravey. Fave tracks are the rampant beats of Contact, the 15-minute Dionysiac and part three of Interceptor.

Get this. Seriously. Big grin
