I’m thinking techno, I’m thinking hard dance, mmm, make that world-class hard dance. I’m thinking drums, I’m thinking LIVE, I’m thinking industrial! I’m thinking glam, fresh, and rock and roll baby. So who exactly am I thinking of? Well, if I reveal he was half of the legendary LAB4 (R.I.P.) you’d be in no doubt I am, of course, talking about the magnificent Adam Newman. New man, new times, new music? Having taken a bow at the final LAB4 curtain, Adam is continuing his musical rampage solo — and the world had better watch out! Speaking to Party Proactive in the build up to his back to bump set with the delectable *Ting*, we dig deep on his solo DJ career, forthcoming productions and life before and since the end of the 13 year reign of fame that was LAB4. And if you can’t wait until Party Proactive on Saturday 24 March, Adam is in town this Saturday to play the techno stage at Antiworld’s last official International Indoor Festival at Seone...

Fergilcious: PunchFunk & Excentrik take over The Key
Written by e99 on 29-01-07 02:02 (6692 views)

A product of hard house superclubs like Trade, Sundissential and Frantic, Robert Ferguson went from king of bounce to Radio1 superstar in an amazingly short space of time, following his inception into the dance music community under the watchful eye of Tony De Vit. Now more known for his techno and electro shenanigans, Fergie has entered 2007 with a new record label, a new London residency, and a schedule free from the weekly fixture of his Radio1 show — which he finished in the second half of last year. He’s a bit of musical chameleon, having taken several musical directions over the years, ensuring that his sound never gets stale. He’s currently plumbing for meaty electro — think German producers like Sven Vath and Oliver Huntemann — essentially gritty grooves for dark rooms.

Hard Dance Awards preview: meet the regional heroes who keep the UK pumping!
Written by Ed Real on 25-01-07 00:31 (15150 views)

Although the Hard Dance Awards have been held in London for the last couple of years, the awards is totally committed to showcasing and celebrating the scene all over the UK and beyond. Every weekend, promoters and DJs around the country hold events that keep the hard dance movement alive and kicking in their area and without them it'd be a smaller and a much less interesting business.
For the first time in the history of the awards, venue size allows us to doff our caps in the direction of those players around the UK whose hard work and commitment through the ups and downs make hard dance one of the most comprehensive and far reaching underground dance communities on the planet. Regional heroes we salute you!

El Greko returns to the Fridge for The Gathering Residents’ Showcase
Written by Tara on 24-01-07 23:08 (5645 views)

Very few DJs are skilled and dedicated enough to make it onto the pro circuit, let alone stay there for seven years. Gathering resident El Greko not only did just that before retiring, but then after a five year break made an impressive comeback, cemented by him winning the Frantic & HarderFaster DJ Competition in 2003, which led to some impressive gigs at MOS, Heaven, The Fridge and Camden Palace.
He’s back in town this weekend to play at The Gathering Residents’ Showcase at The Fridge, with a set at Classics of the Decade to follow on Saturday 3 February. But what has he been doing all this time? We decided it was definitely time Aki Nicholas aka El Greko was back under the spotlight for another round.

Modernism, Politburo and Sedition: Matthew Duffield’s manifesto
Written by benz on 24-01-07 21:19 (9532 views)

2006 saw the landscape of London’s club scene change dramatically. Indie clubs flourished, electro infiltrated even the most commercial of nightclub establishments, and afterparties became even more f*cked-up as the minimal plague enveloped London’s most twisted club crack-ons. This year, the revitalisation of the clubbing landscape en masse looks set to continue as more promoters push the boundaries of clubbing, merge different musical scenes, and take more risks to stage events that are truly memorable and exciting. One such promoter is Matthew Duffield, director of the house/electro agency Sedition DJs and now co-director of the newly formed Politburo events company.

Volume: an audio visual experience

It’s an oft discussed topic here. Diversification. Is this just a music website? Should we only discuss topics of a musical nature? Should we be exposed only to items musically inclined? It’s with these thoughts in mind I considered making a review of Volume for you. It’s not a party, or a single, or even a flyer, but should you still go and see it?

Interview with Paul Glazby

“You know what I like about Paul Glazby? He plays hard, and he looks hard too, he really suits his music.” These sentiments were offered to me by a friend as we watched Mr Glazby play recently, and I could merely nod in agreement. Glazby, like his music, is tough, uncompromising, no-nonsense. Somehow, you really don’t expect Paul Glazby to be the sort of man to tell puns straight out of a kid’s joke-book…

TimeLock — the new wave of psy trance
Written by HarderFaster on 10-01-07 23:18 (7824 views)

One of the new breed of cutting edge psy trance producers coming out of Israel, TimeLock aka Felix Nagorsky is on fire at the moment. After releasing his first artist album on BNE in 2005 — ‘Power Charge’ — he followed it up in 2006 with an incredible compilation, ‘Advance Options’. Now he’s working on a new album, in between playing at some of the top psy trance parties around the world and creating a mysterious new project. Combining psy trance with his love of electro, TimeLock’s influence is obviously widespread, as many of his contemporaries are now imitating his unique electro psy trance sound. HarderFaster was given the rare opportunity to pose some questions to the man himself ahead of his forthcoming live set at the Antiworld International Indoor Festival…
